They were a disgusting example of adolescent immaturity. The News showed the unfolding destruction created by hundreds of people running around in tracksuits. What I don't understand is how chavs wearing the classic Burberry check for one season nearly destroyed the whole heritage class of the brand but Adidas and Nike are the brands these looters choose to wear and they are still going strong ?
Thugs obviously aren't their target Market and they have a wealth of other customers but it is in the stereotype of our miss guided adolescents to be wearing the brands. They use them as a status symbol and really this is something that would destroy any other brands credibility. To a certain degree they use this as a selling angle with a casual, on the streets vibe to both brands advertising.
As someone who doesn't own a tracksuit i may be bias but I do not understand how they get away with having two completely opposite customer bases -The thugs brand alongside the brand which is the first choice amongst casual and professional sports people alike. Usually the reputation of one stereotype wearing the same brand would discourage the other.
Both brands create products each with two completely different uses depending on the individual.

MEN AND MASCARA
As soon as I clicked send on my last post I looked up at the TV and a mascara advert came on. I usually completely ignore make up advertisements, I have certain brands I use and I stick to them but this advert caught my eye because they used a man in the scene. I have done a quick search and I cant find another mascara advert where a man has been used. And of course it isnt just any man it is Pharrell Williams, who completely overshadows the beautiful Jessica Biel just by unexpectedly walking into the room.
See the advert below.
I think Pharrell Williams and Jessica Biel are great for targeting the younger market and just the fact a man is strolling through the normally man free zone of make up advertising will catch the other viewers attention.
Revlon have been very clever.

BUYING POWER
The technical definition of buying power -is the number of goods/services that can be purchased with a unit of currency. For example, if you had taken one pound to a store in the 1950s, you would have been able to buy a greater number of items than you would today.
The fashion definition of buying power is- the sales increase that can be seen after use of a celebrity.
What do i mean ??
Here is a great example I found while browsing The Business of Fashion Blog ( Im going to take this opportunity to say TAKE A LOOK at this website, all the facts you need to know about what's going on behind the shiny shop doors of all the designers.... I particularly enjoy seeing who is suing who this week). Every single magazine in the US showed a decrease in sales apart from VOGUE. you may think this is predictable but its not simply because of customer loyalty to the magazine it is thanks to Lady GaGa!
In March 2011 when this issue was released the magazines sales went up by 100,000.
From my calculations ,at £4.10 per issue this means they gained £410,000 from the astronomical sales.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT GAGA ??
While every has been going GaGa i feel as if have been left behind, obviously i appreciate she is a massive star and is doing amazing things for outlandish up and coming designers but when and how did it become possible for one face to have such a huge influence. I decided to look into the world of GaGa a bit more intensely.
is it power in eccentricity ?
or
Amazing PR and Business advisors?
She has her official website in which you can find everything from her current location, her music, her merchandise and her fan sites.
She is number 1 on the Forbes 100 most powerful celebrities list.
Her 2008 single 'Poker Face' was number 2 on iTunes highest sales list after being downloaded 5,131,000 times.
In Spring 2011 the South Carolina University started a 'Lady GaGa' course. the course will study the fashion and social behaviour of Lady GaGa.
According to celebrity net worth she is worth $110 million.
So it started as music and has morphed into Fashion. As a personal judgement I dont think you learn how to be stylish it is something you already have inside, sure you can keep up with the latest trends and be 'fashionable' but having it naturally means you can wear anything and just somehow make it work. I dont think Lady GaGa has style she has STYLISTS. so should we be annoyed that she is taking the hidden eccentricity of cities and revealing it to the world in a newer id say unnaturally showy way??.
I believe it is the Social Media power that GaGa holds that has led to her success and consequently the success of everything she touches. So although she doesnt have my vote for Fashionista i do praise her for how she has handled her fame and transformed it into a business, and im sure VOGUE will praise her to.

EXPLORING LONDON
I FINALLY own a bike again. I could rant on for pages about how my last bike got stolen while i was working hard in a lecture and the fact they cut through my bike lock with pliers surely means the police should of cared more about this person on the loose stealing the bikes but HEY what can you do ...The police never found my bike and the person who stole it has probably sold it on Ebay along with about 10 others.
BUT YES nearly started the rant...
NEW BIKE
Its blue and its name is Bobby as its a vintage Bobbin bike made in Holland.
Im so excited about the prospect of summer bike rides around London. People usually ask how i am not scared of riding in the busy City but even after having quite a serious accident i still see it as more enjoyable and less daunting than getting on the tube with 100s of other people during rush hour. On a bike you get to see areas of London you would never of seen and generally i do find it to be quicker than public transport.
BUT
Obviously due to my experiences my main advice is: -Make sure your a safe and confident rider
- Buy a helmet
- Buy a lock that is strong and CANNOT BE CUT
THROUGH BY A PERSON WITH PLIERS .

PARADISE IN PROVENCE
I was invited to join my friends in Saint RemyDe-Provence and ....... I FELL IN LOVE WITH FRANCE.
Last year I visited Paris , the Fashion ,the Architecture and the museums left me in awe but there is just something about the South of France that encapsulates this then transforms it, providing you with a completely relaxed lifestyle where you feel more comfortable walking around in a white linen dress and basket than the latest catwalk trends.

Van Gogh resided in the Saint Paul-de-Mausole a former monestry In St Remy shown above and to the right. During his time there he completed over 150 paintings many of which are his most famous and during a short walk around the town you can clearly see spots in which he sat to create his masterpieces.
To see all the best views and towns tucked away from the tourist destinations it is very important to get a car or maybe be adventurous and get a Vespa , i know in the heat i would of loved to of been riding the roads with the wind in my hair...but be warned ....choice of travel method always hinders your outfit choices.

The chic designer names seen everywhere in the City seem nonexistent in Provence they blend into the relaxed lifestyle surprisingly fitting in down the dusty streets of Provence. They take a lot of pride in everything however not in a showy way, they do it because they want to. Take the olive oil above , it has
been presented in a way that resembles a Chanel No5 perfume bottle, they have put effort into making the product so they take extra effort into making it look great too. If you want to purchase this quality French olive oil follow this link. http://www.estoublon.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=1&Itemid=19&lang=en&vmcchk=1&Itemid=19
Our relaxed pace of life was slightly uprooted for the day when we headed to the Principality of Monte Carlo.........this was the first time i had visited Monte Carlo and the first word that springs to mind is CARS.
the wealth is extortionate with millions of pounds worth of cars whizzing past you on one side of the street then a group of equally money rich people sat on their 100ft yachts in the harbour on the other side, all probably here for a stay in the Hotel De Paris where 1 nights stay will cost you at least £800.
WE LEFT THE PROVINCIAL CARS

Lunch at the Cafe De Paris, pop into the Casino then take a trip down to the Harbour. After that walk a nice bit of afternoon tea at the Hotel De Paris. It certainly didnt disappoint.
An outfit that is fashionable and functional in the summer heat isnt always easy to find but there two girls have encapsulated many of the main summer trends :- Floral print, Neon colours, Delicate lace and a boating hat. the box shape of the floral dress hung beautifully and exuded luxury.
Its a place where the fashionistas of Paris come on their holidays and i would recommend a long weekend here to anyone, it is a experience that will stay with you a lifetime. While sat at the airport headed back to the City i got one last reminder of Provincial living.

OUTFIT OF THE DAY
Designer dressing was suddenly back in and labels were being walked around on long legged manicured women everywhere but my personal best dressed people were these two twins below. An outfit that is fashionable and functional in the summer heat isnt always easy to find but there two girls have encapsulated many of the main summer trends :- Floral print, Neon colours, Delicate lace and a boating hat. the box shape of the floral dress hung beautifully and exuded luxury.

FASHION ON THE PAGE
REMEMBER THOSE THINGS CALLED MAGAZINES ???
We have all become obsessed with those things called laptops and iphones and blackberries AND IPADS and getting information so quick that there is no time to explain to people what they are going to see before it bounces onto the screen.
BUT
REMEMBER THOSE THINGS CALLED MAGAZINES...... they hold information and knowledge we can truly trust and images that scream out to you , inciting you to buy their product. You can stare in awe for hours at a advertisement or article you like without the screen going black or a slideshow of other images that aren't even relevant arrive on your screen.
As a student i think magazines and newspapers are one of the most influential things at our disposal. underneath are some advertisements in Julys elle and vogue that caught my eye.

KURT GEIGER - YOU CAN WEAR FLAT SHOES AND STILL STAND OUT -high street but high fashion ,Geiger has gone for the trendy relaxed style shoot in central London. Now established as the place to go for your knock out heels they don't need to show a girl stood in a party dress wearing some chunky heeled boots. They are attracting new customers by showing the versatility in their product range. IM GOING TO BE BOLD AND SAY I LOVE THEIR FLAT SHOES MORE THAN THEIR HEELS.
WHAT BRAND IS THIS ??
CHANEL
NO !!!!!
YES !
I was surprised , if you looked in the magazine and didn't see the Chanel logo they would be the last brand id guess this image belonged to. Karl Lagerfeld photographed and Carine Roitfeld styled the campaign and well its certainly a step away from the classic image they usually portray. I think when they chose Blake Lively to be the new Ambassador in the previous campaign they were trying to bring a new freshness to their advertising like Burberry did with Emma Watson. But I and I know many others don't think she was right at all. These new images show off the quirky but classic style of their new collections. it is just slightly shocking to the eye as the transition wasn't gradual. I believe Chanel are the masters of fashion evolution, it is one of the oldest and most established brands in the industry yet with each new collection and direction they take the brand the classic Chanel that Gabrielle started all those years ago continues to shine through.

LOUIS VUITTON - LUXURY, AUTHORITY, TEXTURE, MONOGRAM AND DOGS!!!!
what more could you want ??
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN- BEAUTY THROUGH THE AGES.
stepping past the vintage trend that continues to float around Louboutin have gone renaissance with their campaign and i think it sets a brilliant contrast to their modern pieces.
LONDON
I moved to london in September 2010 and since then i have been meaning to start a blog, but before i knew it the Uni work and student lifestyle took over and well this is my first post.
I may not be your typical fashion student i.e. i dont walk around the library in 5inch louboutin carrying my gucci bag id much prefer to be wearing my dr martens with a vintage dress and layers of jewellery (most likely that i found while routing through my nans house or charity shops).
This blog isnt just going to be about fashion it will be about anything and everything that catches my eye. i am obsessed with taking photos and stalking the news so hopefully you may actually learn something.!!!!!
